Roswell Wedding Photographer Mentoring Session

A few weeks ago I did a mentoring session with my good friend and fellow photographer Melissa Salinas (she is in the process of getting a website so I will update this with her website when it is up)  She is very new in photography, actually this was only her second session EVER!  She has an amazing eye and a talent for understanding exposure.  She is truly the fastest learner I have ever taught.  I am so glad we got to do this before she moved back to Laredo, TX.  Thanks so much to Priscilla and Scott for letting us borrow them for the afternoon.  Scott was such a good sport doing the session even though he has a broken leg!  You can’t even tell!  They are getting married soon and I wish them the best of luck!

For the first part of the session we talked about nailing your exposure using the zone system.  I know a lot of other photographers use different methods, but for me the zone system gives me a perfect exposure every time, no exceptions.  We had so much fun during the session and I loved getting the opportunity to share the knowledge I have.

These first ones Melissa took. Let me say this again, this is her second session EVER! And these are straight out of the camera!

Now on to mine.  I had such a great time with this session and I love the way the pictures turned out.

The train came right in the middle of the session.  It was the longest loudest train ever. Priscilla and Scott couldn’t hear a word we were telling them!

This picture is just sexy.  Love it!

Thanks again Priscilla and Scott for being such great models!  And hey Laredo! Keep an eye out for Melissa!

Zone system is a way to meter your camera so you get your exposure right on every time. Your meter can be tricked easily and sometimes your pictures will be over or under exposed, usually if there is a lot of black or white in the frame.
